THOUSANDS of spectators have flocked on Monday’s, December 6, 2021, Christmas lighting ceremony at the Misamis Oriental Provincial Capitol in Cagayan de Oro, to witness the Capitol Park dressed with millions of elegant and alluring lights to signal the start of the season in the province.

Governor Bambi Emano led the countdown to light the bulbs, side by side the 20-minute fireworks display that amaze the drawing public who brought with them children jumping for joy looking at the glowing colored lights and sweet noise up in the skies.

In his speech, Governor Emano urges spectators, guests and visitors to seek courage to knock on doors of those who have less in life to celebrate Christmas, invite them to dine with on Christmas Eve and pack something for them to bring as they head home.

“…because for me, it is the true spirit of Christmas—the giving. If you see a house with no Christmas decorations at all…no Christmas lights glowing at night…possibly no food to share with their love ones on Christmas Eve, please have the courage to invite them in your homes, share your food, share your happiness,” Governor Emano said.

Christmas décor contest

At the lighting ceremony, Provincial Tourism Officer Atty. Jeffrey Saclot announced the Capitol Park Christmas Lights and Décor contest with at least P300,000 winning prize  at stake.

Saclot said the contest is exclusive for employees of the Provincial Capitol using the “Salamat, MisOr sa 9” logo concept, a concept attributed to the gratitude of Governor Emano to the people of Misamis Oriental for the nine-year string opportunity to become the father of the province.

Capitol departments are clustered to five—PEO-BIP, PHIO, Nutrition Office, MisOrCareS and Treasurer, as cluster 1; PGO, Administrator’s Office, APA, OBA, Library, MIS, PGSO, BAC, Assessor and PSWDO, as cluster 2; Accounting, PESO, Agriculture, MOPIAD, Pay Parking, Budget, Cooperative Office, as cluster 3; MOPJ, Capitol Guards, Misortel, Capitol Park, HRMO, Veterinary, Legal, PYDO, as cluster 4; and SP, IKNB, Capitol Band, PPDO, Population, ENRO and ECCD as cluster 5.
