HANDMADE Christmas lanterns and decorations inside the Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail and Rehabilitation Center (MOPJ) are now available to public for sale, with prices range from P100 and up.

Tatay Robin (real name withheld), a person deprived of liberty (PDL), makes ends meet this season by crafting his own version of Christmas lanterns with high hopes to sell it higher than the ordinary ones. He said his income from making parols is not enough to provide his family the food to prepare on Christmas eve.

Tatay Robin, however, is thankful to Misamis Oriental Governor Bambi Emano for providing them livelihood.

“Kami nga mga binilago diri sa Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail dakong pasalamat sa atong halangdong Gobernador nga taliwala pa man nga nag-atubang kita og problema sa pandemya pero wala gihapon mawala sa iyang plano/programa nga hatagan niya og ginagmay nga panginabuhian…pinaagi sa pag himo ug pag baligya sa mga parol nga dako na kaayog ikatabang sa amoa nga mga piniriso ug sa among pamilya nga tua sa gawas,” said Tatay Robin, clinching his lantern while selling it to passers-by on Luna-Corrales Streets, Cagayan de Oro.

As his way of support, Governor Emano urges local residents, tourists and private companies to patronize the inmates’ personally-made Christmas lanterns to help grow their income and be merry this season.
